Pixel Ambiance

Digital installation consisting of a series of looping video snippets of scenery in motion filtered through varied pixelation effects, loosely inspired by computer screensavers and electronic music visualizers.

Made using unlicensed videos downloaded online, the objective of each experiment was to isolate the mood and ambiance of the source material while obscuring their subjects to varying degrees, addressing the boundaries between figuration and abstraction in digital images while questioning notions of digital ownership and censorship.

The exploration of the dichotomy between abstraction and figuration in digital displays and the motifs of virtual nostalgia, artificial landscapes and post-internet art underlying the previous experiments were taken further, resulting in a set of abstract screen prints based on the classic Windows XP computer wallpapers.

The photographs that compose the famous wallpapers were edited into minimalistic pixelated compositions and simplified down to primary RGB colors, yielding a series of decorative prints that allude to low-fidelity digital imagery.
